Morality & Mortality (lyrics)
This song was written for a Creative Concepts reflection journal, on the same topic.
It discusses the moral dilemmas one faces when deciding whether to take another person's lives or not.
In the first part of the song, it is about war, and why it still exists, when numerous innocent people are suffering from it
In the second part, it is about the poor, and why they are not given the help they needed, when the rich are just getting more well-off.
Eventually, the song hopes to persuade people to learn from the mistakes made, and build a better future.
This song was written based on a common scenario that people that have crushes on someone else face.
They are afraid of confessing to their crush, and they are not able to show any form of affection in front of them.
As such, they can only bottle it up, and keep it to themselves.
When they wake up, they dream of their crush; when they fall down, the thought of their crush gives them strength to climb back up.
I wrote this song with the intention of using a number of metaphors to represent certain images.
While this is essentially a love song, it describes what the guy in the song likes about the girl.
Not only does he like her looks, eyes, smile, he is also drawn to her actions and composure and sureness of herself.
In the end, the guy wants to spend the rest of his life with her.
This song is a departure from the usual style of music I usually write.
I had Green Day in mind when I wrote this song, so this is more punk rock.
It is about a guy who is tired of the relationship after several (many) misdoings by his girlfriend.
He decides to end the relationship, and then writes a song about it.
Thus, this song is from the guy's perspective, and even poses questions and thoughts that he have.
NEW* The Way You Are (lyrics)
This song is actually a mix of Chinese and English lyrics, with a little Japanese and Korean (really little).
It is about a guy's wish to express his feelings to his love, but for various reasons, is unable to.
He cannot explain how this love came about, or why he fell in love in the first place.
However, he really feels strongly for her, and thus wants to tell her in any way he can.
This is quite an interesting song from my perspective, and probably my favorite tune-wise.
NEW* Shooting Star (lyrics)
This song is about a guy who is deeply in love with his girlfriend, and wants it to last forever.
He thinks about her all the time, and wants to express his feelings to her anytime, anywhere.
Therefore, he is willing to do anything to make this relationship stay.
However, she does not quite feel the same way, so he's trying his best to convince her.
NEW* No More Chance (lyrics)
The idea of this song is that this guy has had an argument with his girlfriend, and fell out because of it.
However, he could not see a future without her, could not live another day alone.
Thus, he wanted to mend the relationship, and have the relationship the way it used to be.
However, on the day he was supposed to meet her, she was involved in an accident.
He never got the opportunity to really express his feelings for her.
The message of this song is to let your loved ones know how you feel about them, before it's all too late.
This song was inspired by the wedding vows done by a couple during the ceremony, and thus has some parts of it in the song.
It is about the confession of the guy who is marrying the girl of his dreams.
He reminisces about the past when he met her, and talks about being with her in future no matter what.
He wants to be her everything, and to give her everything she wants.
This song is totally meant to be sung by the groom for his bride.
"There is nothing half so sweet in life as love's young dream."
Chinese Songs
This is a song that depicts a guy's secret feelings for a girl.
He reminisces about the good times they spent together, and wondering what would happen if she knew.
He is in a dilemma, because while he wants to let her know, he does not want the relationship to change because of it.
He is happy with the current situation, and does not want to complicate things further.
As such, he keeps asking himself many "What if.." questions, and leaves himself with even more doubt and wonder.
*Who says guys and girls can't be best friends?*
This is probably the deepest, most emotional song I have written thus far.
It is about two people in love, and speaks about their thoughts and feelings when they are with each other.
While the song title is literally 'Waiting', it is more of an anticipation of what the partner is about to do.
It took me two months to find the right lyrics and place the scene into the song.
I tried to use the most visual lyrics I could think of, in order to give people certain images in their mind.
This is the lyrics I wrote for the NTU-Music Express Chinese Songwriting Competition.
It is about the feelings one has having just broken up with his girlfriend.
The emptiness inside him, the heart-wrench whenever he thinks about her, and why he did not care more about her feelings then.
I made a lot of effort to try and rhyme the lyrics together, and the verses have a common theme.
Some of the ideas were drawn from personal experience.
This is a song describing a guy's feelings for a girl on a rainy day.
He had just broken up with his girlfriend, on a rainy day, and each one since reminds him of that day.
I used visual elements like footprints on the beach, and raindrops on the window in the lyrics to bring across the message.
At the end, he realizes that reminiscing of the past won't bring him anywhere.
So, he just accepted the fact and take it that the girl has set him free.
